Senior Living Myth Busters

Oftentimes people will associate moving into a Senior Living community as a loss of independence or way of life. However, this belief is inaccurate. Today we will explore some myths about Senior Living and the truth behind them.

  • Myth 1: I will not be able to visit my Loved One(s).Truth: Residents in Independent Living are able to come and go as they please, and those in Assisted Living or Memory Care are now able to take visitors outdoors at visitation stations, designed for the safety of both parties in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

  • Myth 2: Bingo is the only activity.Truth: Activities departments work diligently to create activities that will appeal to a wide range of residents. While COVID-19 has limited close-contact activities, our Activity Directors have come up with new ways to keep seniors active. For example, there are also art classes, happy hours, yoga, and exercise classes, just to name a few.
  • Myth 3: Senior Living communities can be dark, dingy, and often do not smell good.Truth: Our community employs a Maintenance and Housekeeping department who work diligently to keep communities clean and in working order. Our staff desires for our residents to feel like they are at home, and a vital part of that is making sure everything is clean and working properly at all times.
  • Myth 4: When it comes to food – there is no choice and it doesn’t taste good.Truth: Our community has restaurant-style dining. While there is a “special of the day” there is often a choice or an a la carte menu for residents to choose what they would like to eat.
